QUESTIONS TO ASK ANY PROFESSIONAL WEDDING ENTERTAINER
Having the right questions to ask when interviewing your potential entertainers is critical. Whether it be the Disc Jockey, Pianist, Vocalist, Classical Ensemble, Live Music Band, or any other type of musical entertainment, although typically thought about last in the planning process, will be the first thing you remember! Entertainment, without a doubt, will be one of the single biggest reasons for success or failure of your event. You need to be informed as to who your doing business with and the only way to do that is by asking the right questions and getting recommendations from trusted sources.
Are we guaranteed that we will have the perfomer of our choice at our event?
How long has the performer been in business?
How many weddings specifically have they performed?
How many events do they perform at annually and on each weekend?
May we see some references and call them? Can we see a video of your performances?
Do they do anything unique or special that sets them apart from their competition?
What type of additional training, skills or certification do they have?
Certain entertainers also direct the activities of the event, will they be doing this for you?
How much time is spent (and where does it take place) on the planning process?
Can they describe their approach to planning and working with other vendors?
Is there a specific style or approach regarding the performance they will use or do they adapt to your wishes?
If we said "go ahead and just do what you do best" what would that wedding be like?
Has the performer worked at your location before? If so contact your location, ask if they remember the event and how the performance was.
If a member of the band or act falls sick, what will happen?
Do they provide backup equipment, and if so is it a complete or partial system?
Do they bring along an assistant, and if so is that guaranteed or costs extra?
If you are dealing with an agent, who is responsible if the performer does not show?
What is the complete breakdown of cost? Does it include everything?
Should your event last longer than scheduled, will they stay? Extra charge?
If the event is canceled, are the deposits and additonal payments refundable?
What is required if the event is taking place outdoors, or on a boat?
Does the performer take breaks during the performance? If so, how long and will they be providing music in the background during the break?
Do the entertainers need to be fed and if so where would they like to be served?
Will the entertainer play specific requests of you and your guests?
How early will the entertainers be arriving to your event to setup?
What will they and their assistants be wearing to your event?
What type of equipment do they use, is it "road worthy" professional equipment?
Do they carry liability insurance?
